GOING BACK IN TIME

Our History

For more than 140 years, Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes have built a legacy of “service from the heart.” From the very beginning, our focus has been on compassion and innovation—finding new ways to support families while honoring tradition.

The story began in 1883, when Daniel Brintlinger founded Brintlinger Funeral Home. Within just a few years, he established a reputation for excellence. A local newspaper praised him for offering “the very latest paraphernalia incident to the rites of burial,” and families knew they could count on him for a wide selection of wooden and metallic caskets, coffins, and burial robes.

Innovation became a hallmark of the funeral home. In 1913, after the adoption of the automobile, Brintlinger arranged Macon County’s first all-automobile funeral procession, an 18-mile trip to Friends Creek Cemetery that took more than two hours and required eight touring cars and the funeral home’s ambulance.

That spirit of progress has continued for generations. Brintlinger and Earl introduced the county’s first motorized coach funeral, the first one-level funeral home, the first grief recovery program, and the first staff fully licensed in funeral insurance. We were also the first to offer funeral insurance in the community and the first funeral home in Macon County to receive the Outstanding Small Business Award.

Through every era, Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes have led the way in advancing funeral service while staying true to our foundation of compassion. We know that the right service can make all the difference. That is why, after more than a century, we remain dedicated to serving families with innovation, professionalism, and above all, service from the heart.
