William Rogers Whalen, 90, of Forsyth, IL, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018, in his home.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 30, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or Harbor Light Hospice in Forsyth, IL.William was born April 23, 1928, in Decatur, IL, son of William Vincent and Grace Lenora (White) Whalen. He married Dorothy M. Cox on July 22, 1947, in Norfolk, VA.William was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during WWII. He worked at Bethany Grain as assistant manager.William was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and Golden K of Decatur Kiwanis.Surviving is his wife of 71 years, Dorothy of Forsyth, IL; son: Michael (Gina) Whalen of Decatur, IL; daughters: Davena (Mark) Ziemer of Decatur, IL, Debbie (Joel) Klein of Sterling, IL, and Lori (Chuck Fisher) Heise of Decatur, IL; 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 7 step-great-grandchildren; sisters: Patty Richardson of Pana, IL and Rose (Art) Nichols of Decatur, IL; brothers: Tom Whalen and Jerry (Mary) Whalen, all of Decatur, IL.William was preceded in death by his parents, daughters Sharon Leith and Karen Grant, infant grandson Gregory Heise, and brothers David and Jack.
