William Henry Shuppara, 90, of Decatur, IL, died 1:40 A.M., Thursday, November 11, 2010, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.Graveside funeral services for the family will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, November 15, at Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, Illinois, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL is in charge of arrangements.William was born August 4, 1920, in Decatur, IL, the son of Frederick and Augusta (Thara) Shuppara. He married Vivian Wanda Durbin on January 4, 1946 in Decatur, IL. She preceded him in death on August 3, 1999.William was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the 806th Tank Destroyer Battalion. As part of his duties in France, he was assigned to escort generals and visiting dignitaries, including actress Marlene Dietrich. He was also awarded the Bronze Star. Following his army service, he spent most of his working career as a truck driver for Rogers Oil Company, retiring in 1985. During retirement he assisted his son Jim with carpenter work on various houses. He was especially proud of his tomato garden and was a very avid walker.He is survived by his son James Shuppara and wife Verna of Decatur, IL; daughter Sally Harvey of Decatur, IL; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Vivian, son Sydney Shuppara, siblings Violet, Fred, Herman and Henry Shuppara, Helen Irvin, Rose Scribner, Lillian Tootie Swift and Betty Rodgers.William fought heart disease bravely. He was a loving, soft spoken, deeply devoted father and family man. He was loved by all and will be missed more than words can say. "
