William Shackelford

William H. Shackelford M.D., 88, of Cerro Gordo passed away December 4, 2018 surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Friday, December 7 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur with visitation 5:00-8:00 PM, Thursday, December 6 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cerro Gordo Cemetery, Cerro Gordo, IL with military rites by Cerro Gordo American Legion Post 117. Memorials in Dr. Shackelford’s honor may be made to Prairie View Baptist Church or Hospital Sisters of St. Francis Mission Outreach. Dr. Shackelford was born September 8, 1930 in Highland Park, MI, the son of Lawrence and Pearl (Kramer) Shackelford. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University in 1951 and attended medical school at the University of Illinois Chicago, graduating in 1955. He served his internship at Decatur Memorial Hospital in 1955. In 1956, he started a family practice in Cerro Gordo, IL. Dr. Shackelford proudly served his country in the US Air Force where he served as Air Force Chief of Pediatrics from 1957-1959. He then returned to Cerro Gordo where he practiced family medicine. He opened the Shackelford Clinic in Arthur in 1990 and practiced in Cerro Gordo and Arthur until his retirement in 2018. He married Jessie L Dorris in 1951 and she preceded him in death. He later married Donna Wiggle on September 24, 2011. Dr. Shackelford is survived by his wife, Donna; son Kevin W Shackelford (Terri), and grandchildren Brittany, Jessica and Sidney Joleen of Collierville, TN; daughter Gesslyn Sue Engelhard (Bill) of Bayou Vista, TX, grandchild Jason (Claudia) Engelhard, great grandchildren Mason and William, grandchild Nathan (Tasha) Engelhard; son Lawrence H. Shackelford of Oakley, grandchild Jacob (Megan) Shackelford, and great grandchildren Knox, Sylvie, Zeke, and Nash. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jessie, and sister Kathryn Westlake
