Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Thursday, October 23, 2008, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M., Wednesday, October 22, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, with Masonic Rites being conducted at 8:00 P.M. by Summit Lodge #431 AF & AM, Warrensburg. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, IL, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Presbyterian Church or Shriners Childrens Hospital.Bill was born December 10, 1925, the son of Ralph and Lucille (Troutman) McArty. He was a graduate of Stephen Decatur High School and served as a radioman in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Garrard. He married Doris Jacobs on June 1, 1947 in Decatur, IL. Bill retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Decatur, after 36 years of service. After retirement, Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, collecting antiques, and being involved in the community. He served as an elder with Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. He was a member of American Legion Post 105 Decatur, Past Master and 50 year member of Summit Masonic Lodge #431, 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason Valley of Bloomington, and Ansar Shriner. One of the highlights during his retirement years was spent as an Auxiliary Deputy with the Macon County Sheriffs Department. He served from 1983-1990, received many service awards and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.Bill is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris, daughter Linda (Wilson) White, son Calvin McArty, sister Nancy (Lawrence) Turner, all of Decatur, sister Rosemary (Aden) ODell of Kent, WA, grandson Jason White of Decatur and granddaughter Christen McArty of Chicago; several nieces and nephews.
