Mayfield, 85, of Decatur, IL, died 7:30 A.M., Sunday, February 15, 2009, at Heartland of Decatur, IL.Visitation will be from 5 to 7 P.M., Thursday, February 19, 2008, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home are handling the arrangements.Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association.William was born June 29, 1923, in Coulterville, IL, the son of Floyd Jackson and Maude E. (Williams) Mayfield. He worked at Caterpillar, Inc. For 35 years, retiring in 1981. William served in WWII in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Phillipines and the South Pacific. He was a member of American Legion Decatur Post #105.He is survived by his children Diana K. Peifer and husband Thomas of Bloomington, IL, Jacqueline S. Jesse and husband James of Flanagan, IL, William I. Mayfield and wife Nancy of DeWitt, IL; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; close friend Odie B. Hillis and wife Lana of Decatur, IL.He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Issac Black, infant brother Robert Lawrence, and infant granddaughter Jamie R.
