William Nelson Malone, 96, of Decatur, IL, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Hickory Point Christian Village, Forsyth, IL. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Thursday, June 29 at The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, Decatur, with visitation one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Weldon Cemetery, Weldon, IL. Memorials may be made to The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints Missionary Fund or Humanitarian Fund. William was born May 18, 1921, in Decatur, IL, son of Arville Edward and Maude Louise (Roby) Malone. He married Ileta Fern Turpin on November 29, 1945, in Bloomington, IL. William was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving as a B-24 Bomber pilot during WWII in the South Pacific and retired as Lt. Colonel. He was a member of the VFW. William was a faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served on missions in England, Australia, Washington, D.C., Salt Lake City, Chicago, and St. Louis. William retired from the Wabash Railroad after 30 years of service and was a member of the Wabash Railroad Retirees. He was an entrepreneur, embraced new things, and enjoyed traveling around the world, woodworking, metal sculpting, gardening, genealogy, aviation, and singing. William built two family homes and helped his children remodel their homes. Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Ileta; children Edward William (Linda) Malone, Ron Archie Malone, and Kathryn Anne (Alan) Binder; 6 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Gloria Malone. William was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Bessie Ridgeway Jestis, Anna Belle Kaylee and Robert Marvin Malone. "
