William Heer

William E. “Bill” Heer, age 95, of Decatur, IL, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2019 at his residence. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Illini Cemetery, Warrensburg, IL. Memorials may be made to the VFW Foundation or Operation Homefront. William was born October 3, 1923 in Decatur, IL, the son of William J. and Gladys (Burley) Heer. Bill graduated from Decatur High School in 1943. He married Dorothy Eileen McCane on May 10, 1947 in Decatur, IL. She preceded him in death on April 18, 2004. Bill was owner of Mac’s Variety and Glass Co. and was a glass glazier. He loved hunting and crappie fishing, he was also an avid Cub’s fan. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. William was a U.S. Army combat veteran serving with the 95th Infantry Division in Europe during WW II. He is survived by his children William Michael (Kathy) Heer of Decatur, Robert Edward (Peggy) Heer of Rochester, IL; 3 grandchildren, Todd (Amy) Heer, Mandy (John) Maas, Rob (Sonya) Heer; and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two sisters, Rosemary Johnsen and Barbara McNaught.
