Visitation: 12:00 PM on June 27, 2011 Funeral: 1:00 PM on June 27, 2011 Wendell E. Moore, of Decatur, IL, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., Monday, June 27, 2011 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL, with full military rites conducted by Macon County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion Post #105 or Macon County Honor Guard. Wendell was born December 27, 1925 in Bluffs, Illinois the son of Ralph and Ethel (McCaleb) Moore. He was raised by his Aunt Ollie (Moore) and Uncle Newt Beavers. After graduating from Bluffs High School, Wendell served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific. Upon his return, he pursued his lifelong career as an automotive mechanic. He married the love of his life, Doris W. Nunn on June 19, 1949 in Winchester, IL. They moved to Decatur, IL in 1950. He worked at several garages and in 1969 he opened and operated Wendell's Transmission Service. His greatest joy was time spent with family and friends on the water, fishing and boating. He owned a number of boats and cruised many of the lakes and rivers in the Midwest. He especially enjoyed trips taken with friends from the Dolphin Boat Club. Wendell was a member of American Legion Post #105. He leaves his devoted wife of 62 years, Doris, daughter; Mary C. (Glenn) Tiede, sons; Randall T. of Dunedin, FL, Alan T. (Rita) of Clinton, IL, and Mark E. (Janette) of Decatur, brother; Philip (Mary) Moore of St. Charles, MO, grandchildren; Zachary, Sara, Teri, Audrey,Wendy, and Peyton, great-grandchildren; Marley, Cannon, and Jada. Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald, his Aunt Ollie and Uncle Newt and his Aunt Vera (McCaleb) Korty. The family wishes to thank the staff of the DMH Extended Care for their loving and considerate care of Wendell. "
