Wayne A. Day, 78, of Decatur, passed away at 12:05 A.M. Sunday, February 28, 2016, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.Wayne was born on March 16, 1937, in Decatur, IL, the son of Samuel Jackson and Lucy Della (Camp) Day. He received his GED May 21, 1987. In his earlier childhood years he worked as a caddie. Wayne proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a patrolman (Government Services). He later worked at Kilborn’s and Standard Scrimpter’s Service Station as an auto mechanic. He graduated Barber College in the 1970s. Wayne retired from Grigoleit Co. after 51 years as a maintenance man and active union steward. After retiring he delivered donuts to various churches and business places. Wayne liked to play pool, work on lawn mowers, gardening, and watching TV.Wayne leaves behind his wife Janet L. Day of 54 years of marriage; son Troy Day and daughter Tina (Dale) Moran of Decatur; brother Virgil (Louise) Day of Decatur; sisters Elnora Harlin of Decatur and Doris Tomlinson of Georgia; grandchildren Laura and Hayley Day and Ashleigh Moran; step-grandchildren Jessica Rhodes of Pana and Brett Moran of Decatur; one great grandchild and two step-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Helen Merriman, Vivian Shures, Naomi Tomlinson, Louellen Anderson, and Lela McCoy, and brother Ronald Day.Graveside services to celebrate Wayne’s life will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Macon County Memorial Park with military rites conducted by Macon County Honor Guard. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. "
