Wayne Cox

Wayne A. Cox, 82, of Decatur, IL, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Life’s Journey Senior Living, Mattoon, IL. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, at Prairie Avenue Christian Church. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Burial will be in North Fork Cemetery, Decatur. Memorials may be given to Scovill Oriental Garden; checks may be payable to: Decatur Park Foundation. Wayne was born June 10, 1934, in Decatur, IL, the son of Ira and Bertha (Schimanski) Cox. He married Shirley Haynes on February 11, 1955, in Decatur. Wayne was a member of Prairie Avenue Christian Church. He worked at A.E. Staley for 40 years as a millwright, retiring in 1996. He enjoyed decorating the outdoors at Christmas, stained glass and boating. Surviving are his wife of 61 years Shirley of Decatur; children: David Cox and wife Loretta of Chicago, IL, Michael Cox of Springfield, IL, Sheryl Cox and husband Tim Bode of Springfield, OH, and Alan Cox of Washington, DC; seven grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; sister Carol Buelow and husband Ed of Vicksburg, MS. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Dale and Donald, and sister: Delores Luker. The family wishes to thank Lifestyles Journey Senior Living in Mattoon, IL.
