Waneta M. Moses, 105, of Decatur, IL, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2024, at Primrose Retirement Community of Decatur, IL, surrounded by her family.
A Celebration of Waneta’s life will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1360 West Main Street, Decatur. Memorials in Waneta’s honor may be made to: Westminster Presbyterian Church or Kemmerer Village, 941 N 2500 East Rd, Assumption, IL 62510.
Waneta was born October 1, 1918, in Rural Sidney, Champaign County, IL, the daughter of George L. and Lora E. (Witt) Trick. She earned her B.A. from Millikin University, graduating in the class of 1941. Waneta was active in Sigma Alpha Iota Music Sorority at Millikin. She married J. David Moses on June 5, 1943 in Mt. Pulaski, IL. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1998.
Waneta taught Music and English in Windsor and Stewardson schools and later taught Title I in Decatur Public Schools for 19 years. She was active in PTA and enjoyed playing games and cards. Waneta was involved in Westminster Presbyterian Church and sang in Grace Notes.
Waneta is survived by her children: James D. Moses (Judy) of Oklahoma City, OK, Gail LeFever Wright (Russ) of Bement, IL; grandchildren: Meagan Moses (Nate Meyer) of Brooklyn, NY, Annie (Chris) Kirby of Oreana, Leah (Claudio) Rubio of Oklahoma City, OK, David LeFever of Bement, Jayme (Jeff) Kelton of Edmond, OK; great grandchildren: Lily, Luca, Olivia, Hadley, Sloane, Wells, and Alex.
Waneta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J. David Moses; brothers: Kenneth and Melvin; sisters: Ruth, Lorene, and Olive; son-in-law, Kent LeFever.
Waneta’s family wishes to extend their thanks to the nurses, staff and friends at Primrose Retirement Community and Gentiva Hospice for their loving care of Waneta.
