Wanda Jean Matteson
Wanda Jean Matteson, daughter of Kenneth and Pauline Reining, was born in Peoria, Illinois, in 1940. She passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, at the age of 86, reunited with the love of her life, her devoted husband of 66 years, Jerry L. Matteson, who preceded her in death.
Wanda and Jerry were united in marriage on August 21, 1959, and shared 66 loving years together filled with devotion, family, and lasting memories.
Wanda is lovingly survived by her children, Todd Matteson and his wife, Diane Matteson, and Kent Matteson and his wife, Mary Matteson; her grandchildren, Stephanie Lynn Matteson-Harris and her husband, Benjamin Harris, Danielle Matteson Crane, Tyler Matteson and his wife, Tina, Chelsea Watson and her husband, Alex Watson, and Morgan Galloway and her husband, Mike Galloway; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Dexter Harris, August Harris, Olivia Crane, and Wesley Harris. Each of them was a source of immense pride and joy throughout her life.
Throughout her life, Wanda was known for her dedication and strong work ethic. She worked at Caterpillar, Hi-Flyer, and later served at Moundford Free Methodist Church, where she enjoyed helping others and being part of a caring church family.
Wanda possessed a remarkable gift for art and crafts. Whether painting, creating handmade treasures, or expressing her creativity in countless ways, her talent was evident in everything she touched. She delighted in making beautiful things and sharing them with those she loved.
She was adored by her grandchildren, who cherished every moment they spent with their grandmother. Her gentle nature, warm smile, and unconditional love created memories they will treasure for the rest of their lives.
Wanda was also known for her striking beauty. Friends and acquaintances often remembered her long after meeting her because of her elegance and grace. Yet those who knew her best understood that her greatest beauty came from her loving heart, her kindness, and her unwavering devotion to her family.
After sharing 66 wonderful years of marriage, Wanda and Jerry’s love story continues beyond this life. Their enduring commitment to one another and to their family leaves a lasting legacy that will continue through the generations they helped shape.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, with the funeral service beginning at 12:00 noon, all at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, 2827 N. Oakland St., Decatur, Illinois. Burial will immediately follow at Boiling Springs Cemetery.
Wanda will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of her family and friends.
