Walter G. Stahl, 94, of Niantic, died Monday, February 6, 2012, at Heartland Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 11:30 A.M. Friday, February 10, at Niantic Christian Church, with visitation beginning at 9:30 A.M. until service time. Masonic Rites will be conducted at 11:30 A.M. by Kedron Lodge #340, Mt. Auburn. Burial will be in Harristown Cemetery. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Memorials may be made to Niantic Christian Church. Mr. Stahl was born June 23, 1917, in Niantic, the son of Walter D. and Julia (Bruce) Stahl. He married Marjorie Louise Evans on April 9, 1939. She preceded him in death September 9, 2008. During WWII, Mr. Stahl worked at the Defense Plant at Illiopolis, and he was a farmer his whole life. He enjoyed golf, travel, fishing, and gardening, and he went to Florida for the winter for many years. He was an active member of Niantic Christian Church, and formerly a Deacon at the church, a charter member of Niantic Civic Club, and a member of the Macon County Farm Bureau. He joined the Masonic Lodge in Illiopolis, Lodge #521 AF & AM, which is now Kedron #340 in Mt. Auburn, and he was a member of BPOE #401. Mr. Stahl is survived by his children: Nancy Flamm and special friend David Sexson of Blue Mound, Sue Waddell and husband Jim of Niantic, and Steve Stahl and wife Kim of Illiopolis; grandchildren: Susan Turnholt and husband Bob of Woodridge, Sherry Nicholls and husband Tod of Decatur, Richard Flamm of Algonquin, Sharolyn Esgar and husband J.R. of Wildwood, MO, Sara Ervin and husband Matt of Alexander, AR, Kim Cornwell and husband Blain of Taylorville, Michael Waddell of Niantic, Brian Waddell and wife Jill of Normal, Julie Suver and husband Dan of Seattle, WA, and Jeff Stahl and special friend Molly Smith of Rochelle; sister Mildred Eckhart and husband Richard of Niantic, and fourteen great grandchildren.
