Walter Duane Snell, 77, of Oviedo, FL, formerly of Decatur, IL passed away suddenly at his home on Thursday, October 24, 2013. Services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 1, 2013, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, October 31, at the funeral home. Burial will be in North Fork Cemetery, Decatur, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels (www.mealsetc.org). Duane was born November 18, 1935, in rural Twin Brooks, SD, the son of Walter and Lillian (Kruger) Snell. Prior to retirement, Duane was an Electrical Construction Manager/Consultant. His detailed expertise resulted in numerous successful projects across the nation. Duane was a very active volunteer in Meals on Wheels of Central Florida, donating his time delivering meals to the elderly and home-bound. In addition to the normal volunteer services, Duane went above and beyond, "going the extra mile" for the people on his route, and was always there to be a good listener, and even providing extra favors such as walking their dogs. Duane was a member of Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 766 of Orlando, where he was involved in fundraising and support for the Mooseheart Child City & School, a residential facility for orphaned and in-need children. He took up ballroom dancing there and was a beloved friend and brother to everyone there. He is survived by his daughter Cyndee Oldfield and husband Gregg of Decatur, IL; son Mike Snell and wife Kevie of Pleasant Valley, NY; 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; and brother Virgil Snell and wife Sharon of Milbank, SD. Duane was preceded in death by his parents, wife Vivian and his beloved pet toy fox terrier Frisky. Duane was a hardworking and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a gentle and caring man to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed! "
