Walter W. Karloski passed away peacefully at home in Decatur, IL on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the age of 91. He was a lifelong resident of Decatur born on April 22, 1926 to Herman and Mamie (Salogga) Karloski.Walter graduated from Decatur High School. He continued his education at Brown’s Business College and Millikin University, but it was interrupted by a stint in Korea with the U.S. Army. After being discharged in 1947, he married his sweetheart Annalee Gray in 1948 and completed his education at Millikin, graduating in 1950. He worked for Earl E. Richardson as a Certified Public Accountant, becoming a partner in the firm, Richardson & Karloski, in 1959, now called McGuire, Yuhas, Huffman, and Buckley. He retired in 1990.Walter served as a leader in many community and professional organizations: Jaycees, Toastmasters, Family Services of Decatur, Illinois Society of CPA’s, and the Arthur Chamber of Commerce. He especially enjoyed his many years as scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 104 and his service to Lions of Illinois, both with the local Lions Club and as a District Governor.Service to his Lord and his church was a priority for Walter. He served in many capacities, first at Trinity Lutheran Church in Decatur and then at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. He served on committees and boards of the Central Illinois District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and on the board of the Lutheran School Association Foundation in Decatur. He also served as treasurer of the Central Illinois District and as president of its Church Extension Fund.Walter loved to camp, garden and read. He enjoyed his many building and remodeling projects and he loved to travel with Annalee, especially to visit his children, grandchildren, and many extended family members.He is survived by his son Daniel (Susan) Karloski of Pearland, TX, daughters Kathryn (Stephen) Gannaway of Joliet, IL, JoAnn (Thomas) Krueger of Sturgeon Bay, WI, and Jennifer (Joseph) Herl of Seward, NE; his grandchildren Amy Gannaway (Bruce Broker) of Madison, WI, Zachary (fiancée Roxanne Parker) Gannaway of Chicago, IL, Raymond (Jennifer) Krueger of Sturgeon Bay, WI, Hannah (Steven) Andrews of Lee’s Summit, MO, Juliana Karloski and Matthew Karloski of Pearland, TX, and Anna and Mary Herl of Seward, NE; his great-grandchildren Tori, Tobin, Lydia, Ruth, John, Talia, Eliana, and Eden; his dear sister Ruth Karloski of Carlinville, IL, his sister-in-law Norma Karloski of Decatur, and his sister-in-law Bonnie Griffin (Ray Tebussek, deceased, and Al Griffin, deceased) of Cedar Rapids, IA. Many loving nieces and nephews also survive him.He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Annalee Karloski, his infant grandson Edward Karloski, his parents, his brother Robert Karloski and sister Helen (Melvin) Thomas, brothers-in-law Albert (Doris) Gray, Carl Gray, and Earl (Eileen) Gray, sisters-in-law Dorothy (Victor) Ostrander, May (Robert) Colbeck, Minnie Gray, Esther (William) Mueller, Vivian (Arvis) Gadberry, and Alma (Howard) Miller.
