Walter A. Denzler, 75, of Decatur, IL, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, January 23, 2016 in Decatur.Walter was born July 24, 1940, in Hillsboro, IL to Walter and Bernice Denzler. He married Mary M. Heidenreich on October 23, 1965 in Mt. Vernon, IL.Walter was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and active in the Boy Scouts and Indian Guides. He was named 1984 Volunteer of the Year by the Decatur YMCA. Walter achieved his apprenticeship and journeyman’s certificate from the Carpenter’s Local 742 and was a member of the union for many years. He owned and retired from Denzler Construction Company and then worked with Mary at her store Balloons ‘n Things until their retirement in 2015.Walter enjoyed camping, photography, reading, scouting, travel, riding horses, raising dogs and spending time with his grandkids.Surviving is his wife of 50+ years Mary and three sons Michael (Alyson) of Atlantic Highlands, NJ, Mark (Debbi) of Springfield and Jeff (Karla) of Argenta. Walter was very proud of his five grandchildren C.J. Baker, Elizabeth and Jacob Denzler, and Makenzie and Kathryn Denzler. Also surviving are his sister-in-law Barbara Atchison, nephews Carl Denzler, Chris (Cassie) Denzler, niece Karen (Derek) Delgado, and great niece Olivia.Also surviving is the “honey-do list” stapled to the floor joist in the basement!Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Friday, January 29, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, followed by a Memorial service. His body was donated for scientific study.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Illinois.Walter was preceded in death by his parents and brother Richard.
