Walter E. Adams, 96, of Hammond, IL, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Hickory Point Christian Village, Forsyth, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, at LaPlace Church of the Brethren with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in LaPlace Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Cerro Gordo American Legion Post 117. Memorials may be made to Heifer International or Wounded Warrior Project. Walter was born February 17, 1923, in Hammond, IL, son of Robert and Besse (Griswold) Adams. He married Leora Beery March 23, 1947. She preceded him in death November 8, 2015. Walter was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII and received a Purple Heart award. He was a member of LaPlace Church of the Brethren where he was treasurer for 40 years as well as Deacon and Sunday school teacher. Walter was a dairy farmer for 65 years and was the last dairy farmer in Piatt County. He served on the Piatt County Service Company board for several years. Surviving are his daughters: Marilyn (Lloyd) Kirkwood of Lombard, IL, and Janet (Stuart) James of Hammond, IL; son: Larry Adams of Hammond, IL; granddaughters: Jennifer (Tom) Pierce of Alpharetta, GA, Lori (Ryan) Citta of Winfield, IL, Heather Brice of Mt. Zion, IL, and Kimberly (Len) Busche of Gilberts, IL; great-grandchildren: Ryan, Eliza, Aidan, Calvin, and Max. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother and one sister.
