Virginia Snell

January 17, 1924 — August 5, 2018

Virginia Gregson Snell, 94, of Bonita Springs, Florida, and formerly Decatur, Illinois, passed into eternal life on Sunday, August 5, 2018, surrounded by her family.Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Family will receive friends from 10:00 until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Moweaqua, IL. Virginia was born on January 17, 1924, in Sanford, North Carolina. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing In 1945 and served In the Army Cadet Nurses Corp during WWII. After the war ended, she worked as a registered nurse at the Marine Pubic Health Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, where she met the love of her life, Dr Frank Snell. They were married on January 4, 1947, in Sanford, North Carolina. In 1950, they moved to Dr Snell's hometown of Decatur, Illinois where he practiced medicine for over 45 years and she raised their two children. Later Virginia entered the retail world as she owned and operated her gift store, The Ginny Lee, for 42 years. Virginia and Frank were avid travelers and enjoyed adventures all over the world. They were loyal lllini fans holding season football and basketball tickets for nearly 50 years. For the last 10 years, Virginia has resided most of each year in her beloved Florida home. Virginia was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bonita Springs, Florida, and attended Central Christian Church when in Decatur. Virginia and Frank were members of Presidents Council of the University of Illinois Foundation and Virginia continued to support the U of IL I Fund Olympian Club. She was a member of PEO Chapter IF for 53 years. She was a member of the Macon County Medical Auxiliary for many years and she was an elder in the Presbyterian Church. Her husband, Frank, preceded 'her in death in 1999 and also one brother.She is survived by her children, daughter Linda Day (Ed) of Decatur, Illinois and son John Snell (Carla) of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Dr Bradley Day of Odessa, Texas; Elizabeth McCleary (Ryan) of Chicago, Illinois, and Matt Snell (Alana) of LaGrange, Illinois; great grandchildren John McCleary, Charlotte McCleary, and Matthew Snell Jr; sister Julia Blalock (Bill) of Gastonia, North Carolina and nieces and nephews.Memorial donations to: First Presbyterian Church, 9751 Bonita Beach Rd, Bonita Springs, FL 34135 or Central Christian Church 650 W.
