Virginia Herron “Ginny” Cannon, 85, of Decatur, IL, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at First Presbyterian Church, Decatur, IL.Ginny was born October 21, 1930, in Shelbyville, IL, the daughter of Murphy A. and Frances (Rogers) Herron. She married William B. Cannon in 1952 Decatur, IL, and he preceded her in death in 2002.Ginny was a graduate of Millikin University with a Bachelor of Arts (Cum Laude) in 1952 and taught school for years. She was also an avid dancer and had taught performance dancing to many children.Starting in 1972, for 34 years, she was the owner of The China House Antiques, formerly known as The Straw Flower, specializing in Haviland China Matching, and other antiques until 2006. She was noted for expert estate appraisals and also conducting “tag’ sales in the central Illinois area. She was a member of the International Society of Appraisers, American Society of Appraisers, and Central Illinois Antiques Dealers Assn.Ginny was a member of the Country Club of Decatur, P.E.O. (BC) and Delta Delta Delta Sorority.She is survived by her son: Bruce E. Cannon of Findlay, IL; daughters: Anne C.( Charles) Traxler of Daytona Beach Shores, FL; and Amy C. Austin of Elmhurst, IL; grandchildren: John (Dale) Cannon, Jennifer Clark, Brian Cannon, William (Murieal) Cannon, Andrew Traxler, William Bryce (Danielle) Traxler, Will Austin, and Katie Austin; great-grandchild: Madison; first cousin: Elaine (Lance) Beery of Findlay, IL; sister-in-law: Nancy Cannon Wilson of Louisville, Colorado, formerly of Quincy, IL.Memorials may be made to the Decatur Park District Foundation.
