Virgil Kahler

Virgil Leroy Kahler, 92, of Decatur, IL, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2016 in his residence. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 20, in Fairlawn Cemetery, Decatur, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. A private family visitation will be held at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Decatur and Macon County Animal Shelter Foundation. Virgil was born March 12, 1924, in Decatur, the son of Fred E. and Minnie (Snyder) Kahler. He married Betty Yvonne Dillman on April 29, 1951, in Kankakee, IL. Virgil was a U.S. Navy veteran serving his country during WWII. He retired after 40 years of service as a millwright from A.E. Staley. Virgil was a Chicago Cubs and Bears fan and was a baseball coach for boys in Decatur. He also enjoyed golf and was a member of the Moose Lodge #684 in Decatur.Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Betty of Decatur; daughter: Patricia Fowler (Malcolm) of Edmond, OK; sons: Michael Kahler of St. Louis, MO and Tony Kahler of Decatur; granddaughter: Emily Hughey (Jesse) of Dallas, TX; and sister: Mary Bullock of Mt. Zion, IL Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Floyd, Lloyd and Ernie Kahler; sisters: Frances Kahler, Sylvia Etchason, Madge Vance, and Alice Hobbs. "
