Violette Eggers

October 5, 1943 — June 2, 2012

Violette Ann Eggers passed into the arms of our Lord on June 2nd, at 11:08 A.M., in Decatur Memorial Hospital. A service to celebrate Vi's life will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the First Christian Church with Pastor Wayne Kent officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Princeton, IL. The family will receive friends for a time for fellowship at 10 A.M. until service time in the Mosaic Coffee Room at the church. The family suggests casual attire. The Eggers family lost its brightest light on June 2nd. We will meet this wonderful lady again one day. A special thanks to Pastor Kent and to Kit Paulin, Todd Eggers, Paula Dunlop and Luke Brown for their eulogies of Vi. Additionally the family would like to thank all who have helped honor our dear Vi. God bless each of you and God bless Vi for her contributions to our lives. Vi Monahan Eggers was born October 5, 1943 to Charles and Lillian Monahan in Cullom, Illinois. Vi married Richard "Dick" Eggers in 1962. Vi attended Northern Illinois University, where she met Dick, majoring in Nursing. Vi had a long history of community engagement. She was appointed "Mayor for a day" by Mayor Gary Anderson, she served on the initial board/loan review committee of the Decatur Area Economic Development Foundation, she was a founding member of the Decatur Area Women's Network "DAWN", a member of Allstates, ZONTA International, AOZ, SCORE, Decatur Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Decatur, past President of PTA , the American Association of University Women "AAUW", and was voted Business Woman of the Year by the American Business Women's Association and Small Business Entrepreneur of the Year at Millikin University. Vi also served on the education and scholarship committee of ABWA. Vi was the owner of Wonder Women Cleaners, a residential/commercial cleaning service, which she started in 1974 on St. Patrick's Day as a salute to her Irish heritage. Vi never knew a stranger, loved to talk and was touched by those who met her. She loved to cook and always assembled family and friends for holidays and special occasions for her wonderful meals. Vi was preceded in death by her mother and father. Vi leaves behind her husband Dick, son Todd and his wife Susan of Decatur, grandsons Todd, Jr. and Aaron Eggers, all of Decatur, daughter Lori and husband Luke Brown IV and granddaughter Elison Brown and Luke Brown V of Carmel, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations honoring Vi's life be directed to Homeward Bound Pet Shelter at 1720 Huston Drive, Decatur, IL 62526. "
