Violet "Vi" Slot age 92, departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 24, 2026, with family by her side.
Services in her memory will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2026, at Riverside Baptist Church with Pastor Kris Bellemare officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the service. Interment will be at the Boiling Springs Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Bible Study Fellowship or Riverside Baptist Church. The family is being served by Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and three sisters.
Violet was born February 11, 1934, in Waupaca Wisconsin, the daughter of Ervin and Martha (Barth) Lienhard. She graduated from West Suburban Hospital School of Nursing and Wheaton College, where she met the man of her dreams, Jerry Slot. They were married on December 15, 1957, in New London, Wisconsin. As a Registered Nurse she worked at hospitals in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan and 16 years at Decatur St. Mary’s Hospital newborn nursery.
As an active member of Riverside Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School and led the nursery Cradle Roll program. She was chairperson of Decatur Christian Womens Club two years and led many home Bible studies. She was an active member of Bible Study Fellowship as a group discussion leader for 17 years.
Special joys to her were family times including vacation trips, camping, holidays, and also times with grandchildren. She and her husband traveled to Israel, Greece, Hawaii, and enjoyed several Caribbean cruises.
Gatlinburg in the fall was her vacation favorite. Quiet times at home were spent reading and creating various types of needle craft.
Leaving behind to cherish her life and memories are husband Jerry, sons Bryan Slot of Decatur, Dr. Calvin Slot of Rockford IL, Kevin (Evelyn) Slot of Springfield IL, grandchildren Nate, Anthony, Celine, Ednor and Katie, sister-in-law Bette Lienhard and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given to Riverside Baptist Church and Bible Study Fellowship ministry.
