Vernon H. Brunner, Jr., 82, of Forsyth, IL, passed away Monday, September 10, 2018 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL, surrounded by his family. Visitation will be Friday, September 14, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Forsyth United Methodist Church and 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., on Saturday September 15, at the church. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 15 at Forsyth United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Two Mile Grove Cemetery, Latham, IL, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials in Vernon’s honor may be made to Forsyth United Methodist Church or Cancer Care Associates of Illinois. Vernon was born October 12, 1935 in Decatur, IL, the son of Vernon and Edyth (Stuckey) Brunner, Sr. He married Janet L. McCollum on September 24, 1955 in Decatur, IL. She preceded him in death on September 18, 2007. Vernon was a member of Forsyth United Methodist Church and worked the sound system at church. He worked for Mueller Company for 44 years before retiring, and later worked as a mail courier for LLCU. Vernon loved spending time with family, volunteering at Hieronymus Mueller Museum, and was a blood donor, giving several gallons. He is survived by his children Jill (John) Zelhart of Maroa, Chris (Robbin) Brunner of Oreana, Nathan (Shawna) Brunner of Forsyth; grandchildren Corey (Emily) Zelhart, Ryan (Diane) Zelhart, Miranda (fiance’ Max Boeh) Brunner, Taylor (Mike) Cothern, Abby Brunner, Lucas Brunner; great grandchildren Carly and Ellie Zelhart; siblings Ronald Brunner, Delilah Stephens, Vickie McGaughey, Melanie Milliman; sister-in-law Sharon Tolliver. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Janet, son Brett Brunner, brother Ricky Brunner. The family would like to give special thanks to DMH nurses, 4th floor and Intermediate Care for all their wonderful care and compassion given to Vernon.
