Verna M. (Carter) Baker, 76, of Decatur, IL, passed away, Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur, IL. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at Wheeler Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes, Decatur, are assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army. Verna was born June 27, 1937, Ramsey, IL, the daughter of Raymond and Edna (Black) Carter. She married Byron "Barney" Baker on June 7, 1957, in Decatur. Verna worked at Walgreens for 25 years. She enjoyed traveling, Bingo, crocheting, and her family. Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Byron, of Decatur; son Stormey Baker and wife Connie of Pulaski, TN; daughter Wendie Mae Baker of Decatur; grandchildren Benjamin Baker, Daniel and William Cook, and Kristen Cook, all of Decatur; great-grandchildren Joshua, Isahia, Taylor Mae, Brylee Baker, William A. and Jacob Cook, all of Decatur; sister Joy Rice of Decatur; brother David E. Carter and wife E. May of Decatur; nephews Robert Rice of Springfield, IL, Ricky and BJ, both of Decatur. Verna was preceded in death by her parents, son Gale Lynn Baker and brother Torney Ray Carter. Another flame in our family has gone. Verna will be sorely missed. We know she's in Heaven playing Bingo with her son. "
