Tommy Butts, 58, of Decatur, IL, made his final 10-42 at 7:42 p.m., Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 21, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Decatur. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Friday, September 20 and also one hour prior to the service on Saturday, both at the church. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Kidney Transplant Center Barnes Jewish Hospital. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Tommy was born June 13, 1961 in Decatur, son of Thomas, Sr. and Elinor Darlene (Dickey) Butts. He married Sarah Elizabeth Kush on March 8, 1991, in Decatur. Tommy was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He was a career police officer with the Decatur Police Department for 30 years, retiring in 2015, and from 2015 until present day, had worked for Macon County Court Security. Tommy was an avid musician and bass guitarist, and played with the bands: Borderline, Hitmen, and countless others. Tommy is survived by his wife of 28 years, Sarah of Decatur; children: Meg E. Cravens and husband Brad of McKinney, TX, Scott T. Butts and fiancé Erika Correbor of Dallas, TX, and Nicholas P. Butts and partner Matthew Woppel of Chicago, IL; grandson: Reece Ladd Cravens of McKinney, TX; father: Thomas Lee Butts, Sr. and wife Carolyn of Decatur; brother: James Butts and wife Dawn of Peoria, IL; sister-in-law: Allison McCue and husband Mark of Springfield, IL; brother-in-law: Andy Kush of Livermore, CA; nieces: Mellisa, Amanda, and Molly; nephews: Ethan, Cooper, Tate, and Liam. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and sister-in-law Jen Kush. His family and friends will forever feel the loss of this Renaissance man. Tom was not only a law officer, he was an accomplished musician, and excellent cook, antique furniture restorer, and above all else, a beloved husband and father.
