Thomas Mccarthy

Thomas F. McCarthy, 81, of Decatur, died at home on October 28, 2017.Tom was born December 16, 1935, in Pana, Illinois, the son of Fred V. and Marie (Whitman) McCarthy. He graduated from St. Teresa High School and summa cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Engineering. He spent his entire career as a design engineer at Caterpillar. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, especially his yearly canoe trips to the Boundary Waters. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes parish.Surviving are his sisters Eileen Hawker and Patricia Berndt, his sister-in-law Marsha McCarthy; his nieces and nephews Sue, David and Christopher (Laura) Berndt, Cathy (Clark) Beckway, Kerry McCarthy Chase, Robert and Hillary Hawker, Colleen (Kirk) Vallandingham, and Tom (Natalie) McCarthy; and nine great-nephews and nieces.Preceding him in death were his brother Jerry and sister Kathleen, a great-nephew and great-niece.Graveside services were held on November 4 at Boiling Springs Cemetery.Condolences may be sent to www.brintlingerandearl.com.
