Thomas J. Maddox, 83, of Decatur, IL, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at Fair Havens Christian Home, Decatur, IL.Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Sunday, January 3, 2016, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation 4 to 6 p.m., Saturday, January 2, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Memorials may be made to Department of Children and Family Services.Thomas was born March 8, 1932 in Decatur, IL. He married Beverly Ann Wilhelm on March 6, 1964 in Decatur, IL. She preceded him in death on January 6, 2010. Thomas served 31 years with the Decatur Fire Dept., retiring as a Captain at Station #7. He and his wife were active in the State Foster Care program, and served as foster parent for more than 250 children, often volunteering to care for the neediest children, those with physical or emotional problems. Thomas was affiliated with Morningside Church of Christ.He is survived by his children Michael (debi) Maddox of Monument, CO, Pamela (Joe) Hazel of Richmond, VA, Richard Maddox of Springfield, Thomas Maddox of Decatur, Charlotte (Mark) Roberts of Decatur, Holly (Steven) Pearson of Clinton, IL; grandchildren Jennifer Murphy, Jesse Maddox, Hailey Pearson; great grandchild Cora Vine Maddox.He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Beverly, son Garry, granddaughter Rachel Leah, and brother Robert. "
