Thomas E. Armstrong, 78, of Decatur passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. The visitation and funeral will be at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1 Bachrach Court, Decatur, IL. The visitation will be at 10am with the funeral to follow at 11am on Tuesday, February 19, 2019. Pastors Mark Gearig and Wray Offermann will officiate. Graveside services at Maroa Township Cemetery will follow. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Hickory Point Golf Course. Tom was born on May 18, 1940 in Clinton, IL the son of Harley and Eleanor Armstrong. Tom graduated from Clinton High School and attended Illinois State University. After college Tom worked for 31 years at Pekin Insurance. He also owned and operated Armstrong Tax Service for over 40 years. Tom was an active member of the community serving in a leadership role at the local chapter of the Illinois Jaycees. He is survived by his wife Miriam Lynette Armstrong along with their daughter, Michelle and her husband Rob, and two grandchildren, Brandon and Brittney of Brentwood, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jerry Armstrong and daughter, Kimberly. Tom enjoyed sports and was a big fan of Illini athletics, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Bears and Bulls. He was an avid golfer and loved the Decatur Park District golf courses with Hickory Point Golf Course being his favorite.
