Terre T. Engleton, 73, of Decatur, IL passed away on Sunday, September 04, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 at 12:00 noon with a visitation beginning at 11:00am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Decatur, IL. Memorials may be given to Bishop Noll Institute or Sts. James & Patrick Parish.Terre was born on December 29, 1942 in Hammond, IN the son of James and Laurann Sweeny Engleton. He attended grade school at St. Joseph’s Catholic Grade School in Hammond, IN for 4 years, and St. John Bosco Catholic Grade School in Hammond, IN for 4 years. Terre graduated high school in 1960 from Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond, IN and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1964. Work experience includes being an auditor, staff accountant, office manager, and chief accountant for Lindsay Schaub Newspapers from 1964-1980. Terre then worked as Controller for the Herald and Review Newspaper from 1981 until he retired in 2000.Terre was a member of Sts. James & Patrick Parish; Big Brothers/Big Sisters; Decatur, Mt. Zion, Southern Model Railroad Club; and the National Association of Accountants. Terre volunteered for the Good Samaritan Inn and Sts. James & Patrick Parish. As a donor, his last act of charity was to give someone else the gift of sight. He was an avid rail fan, being an expert model railroader with elaborate layouts. He had a deep appreciation for art and music, especially opera and classical. He had a passion for reading and cooking. He was an outdoorsman and liked to hike. Terre had a great sense of humor which he shared with others. He was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs. He loved spending time with his granddaughters who referred to him as “Gramps.”Terre is survived by his wife of 17 years, Mary Engleton; sons, Shawn Michael of Baton Rouge, LA and Jeffrey Brian of San Jose, CA. Also surviving are one brother, Michael J. (Kathy) Engleton of Munster, IN; one sister Jane E. Engleton of San Diego County, CA; sisters-in-law Mary Jo Engleton of Brownsburg, IN and Thelma Engleton of Colville, WA; step-children Jeff Reinhardt of Bend, OR and Julie Benitez of Hudson, IL; step-granddaughters; Savannah, Sofia, and Lilly.Terre was preceded in death by his parents, James and Laurann Engleton; brothers, Dan, Tony, and Jimmy. "
