Teddy Barnes

Teddy “T.R.” Barnes, 93, of Decatur, IL, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2019, at Hickory Point Christian Village. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 22, at Fairlawn Cemetery, Decatur. Memorials may be made to Special Olympics. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home is assisting the family. Teddy was born May 31, 1925, in Harristown, IL, the son of Ervin and Nannie (Knisley) Barnes. He married Doris B. Eaton on January 4, 1947 in Decatur, IL. She preceded hi m in death on January 10, 2009. Teddy retired from Norfolk and Southern Railroad in 1986 where he worked as a Carman. He served as a gunner’s mate, First Class in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1951. He enjoyed spending time with his family, the St. Louis Cardinals, fishing, and working with wood. He was able to fix almost anything. Surviving are his daughters: Linda Sue Whitaker, Cindy (Don) Sutman and Vicki (Ralph) Schultz, all of Decatur; son: Stanley (Diane) Barnes of Oreana; 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and son-in-law: Ricky Jones of Decatur. T.R. was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Pamela Jones, grandson Chad Richards, 8 brothers, 5 sisters, and son-in-law Charles Whitaker.
