Susan Elaine Kingery, 78, of Decatur, passed away Monday, August 3, 2026, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2026, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In accordance with her wishes, cremation rites have been arranged. Burial will take place at a later date in Harristown Cemetery.
Susan was born October 9, 1947, in Mattoon, IL, the daughter of Bruce and Ethel Irene (Pauley) O’Dell. She graduated from Niantic-Harristown High School and attended Flamingo Beauty School in Decatur. She married Thomas Rex Kingery on October 11, 1971, in Las Vegas, Nevada; he preceded her in death on March 29, 2014.
Susan worked at Venture, Farm and Fleet, and Decatur Memorial Hospital, where she spent 15 years in housekeeping before retiring. She enjoyed watching westerns, doing word searches, going to garage sales, shopping, dining out, traveling—especially to South Dakota—and spending time with dogs. She also enjoyed a good donut and a Diet Pepsi.
She is survived by her daughters, Tonya Bush of Decatur and Barbie (Eddie) Ekis of Illiopolis; six grandchildren, Zachary (Kaylee) Kingery, Susan Arlene Bush, James Curtis Bush IV, Emma Lampley, Zara Ekis, and Rylan Ekis; three great-grandchildren, Dacie Lynn Kingery, Ryker Kingery, and Rowen Kingery; her brother, Kenny (Penny) O’Dell of Decatur; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Jerry, Mike, Tom, and John O’Dell; and four sisters, Sharon Walker, Delores Allan, Vickie Davis, and Francis Trail.
