Stanley C. Poland, 96, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Hickory Point Christian Village, Forsyth, IL. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, February 17, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, with visitation 5-7 P.M. Thursday, February 16, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Boiling Springs Cemetery, Decatur, IL, with military rites by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to First Congregational Church Building Fund. Stanley was born September 15, 1915, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the son of Arthur and Marie (Flamm) Poland. He married MarieAnna Troth on April 1, 1941, in Burlington, Iowa. Stanley served in the Coast Guard Reserve in Peoria, IL before going into the U.S. Army Air Corps, later the U.S. Air Force, serving on the island of Hokkaido, Japan during World War II. He retired from Caterpillar, Inc as the Planning and Tooling manager in 1977. Stanley was also chairman of the Civil Service Commission in Decatur for 8 years. He was a loving and devoted husband of almost 71 years; he was active in his church; he enjoyed playing golf; building numerous model ships with his hands; spending time with his friends and family; listening to his wife play the piano; and a nice bowl of ice cream. Stanley was a great man who was deeply loved by his family and his memory will live on with them. Stanley is survived by his wife MarieAnna of Decatur, IL; daughter Barbara Thompson of Washington, IL; son Mark Poland and wife Carol of Warrensburg, IL; granddaughter Becky Williams and husband Toby of Forsyth, IL; granddaughter Connie Poland of Warrensburg, IL; great-granddaughters Karissa and Kyra Poland; and great-grandsons Aiden and Logan Williams. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents. "
