Sophie Snarski

Sophie J. Snarski, 85, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 11:59 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Imboden Creek Living Center. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 24, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, with visitation 5-7. p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery, Decatur. Sophie was born May 15, 1928, in Black Forest, Poland, the daughter of Joseph and Helen Grodzka. She married Joseph John Snarski in 1949, in Chicago, IL. He preceded her in death. Sophie was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She enjoyed working Search-a-Word puzzles, and especially enjoyed listening to her granddaughter Jennifer sing and watching her grandson Brock in all of his sporting events. Surviving are her son Al Snarski of Decatur; grandchildren Jennifer Thornton and husband Ryan of Iowa City, IA and Brock Snarski of Macon, IL; and one sister Stella Sawko. Sophie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother. Sophie was affectionately known as Babcia (Polish for Grandmother) to her grandchildren and called that by many of her friends.
