Shirley was born October 5, 1935, in Moweaqua, IL, the daughter of William Harold and Winifred Porter Bunning. She married Samuel W. Funk in Moweaqua, IL, on October 9, 1955. He survives. Shirley was a member of Rock Springs Church of God in Decatur and Cornerstone Community Bible Church in Galveston, IN. She worked part-time at Milmine Library and the Piatt County Nursing Home. Shirley was a devoted wife and wonderful mother, freely giving of herself whenever she was asked. She helped her husband with the family farm until their retirement in 2005. She enjoyed painting and artwork and would paint a picture on almost any object, bringing it to life and making it art. She considered her daughters-in-law as her own and was very proud of her family. She just adored her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at the age of twelve and always looked for the good in people and showed kindness to all she met. Her love of God and family was reflected in her gentle mannerisms and kind spirit. Shirley always had time to sit and listen and enjoy a cup of coffee with anyone who would stop by. She was truly a friend to everyone she met. She is survived by her husband: Samuel, of Kokomo, Indiana; two sons: Samuel Mark (Jeanna) Funk, of Decatur, IL; John David (Maria) Funk, of Galveston, IN; five grandchildren: Christopher (Sarah) Funk, of Decatur, IL; Robert (Rachel) Funk, of Moweaqua, IL; Jessica (Nicholas) Carter, of Harristown, IL.; Elizabeth (Jacob) Isenburg, LaPorte, IN, and Zachary Funk, of South Bend, IN; and 10 great grandchildren; sister Beverly (Duane) Rarick of Moweaqua, IL and brother William H."Bill" Bunning, Jr. of Front Royal, VA. And, an extra "Thank You" to Southern Care Hospice for their caring and assistance. "
