Shelby June Schmid, 87, of Decatur, died July 27, 2025 at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Dennis Hughes officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 PM, Tuesday in Taylor Cemetery in rural Vandalia.
Shelby was born June 7, 1938 in Fayette County, the daughter of Dugan Melvin and Eunice Opal (Murray) Tompkins. She married Billy Albert Schmid on March 14, 1959 in Vandalia. They celebrated 46 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on September 14, 2005. Shelby worked for many years at Caterpillar until her retirement. She enjoyed time spent with her grandkids and helped her daughter and son-in-law with their auction business.
Surviving are her children: Joni Sue Brinkman (Paul) of Atlantis, FL, Julie Anne Hall (Mike) of Warrensburg, and Randall William Schmid (Aurélie) of Winchester, VA; grandchildren: Paul Brinkman, Jr. and Jessica Brinkman, both of Jacksonville, FL, Evan Hall (Ashlie) of Warrensburg, Dugan Schmid (Haley) of Middleway, WV, William Schmid (Dané) of The Bronx, NY, and Anthony Schmid of Winchester, VA; great-grandchildren: Henry Ray Hall, Heath Schmid, and Jude and Harper Schmid.; niece, Kristi Hickey (Kerwin) of Kirkwood, MO; double cousin Betsy Spearman (Danny) of Bonita Springs, FL; brothers-in-law: David Schmid (Sandy) of Ephrata, PA, Michael Schmid of Decatur, Eddie Schmid of Shobonier; sisters-in-law: Carol Tribble (Rick) of Taylorville, Judy Welch of St. Louis, MO, and Mary (Jim) Schultz of St. Elmo; and many nieces and nephews.
Shelby was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billy; sister and brother-in-law, Ann (Tompkins) Goodin and Gene; nephew, Dr. Gary Goodin and parents-in-law: Edward Albert and Mildred Marie (Albert) Schmid.
