Sharon Kay Riggs, 70, of Decatur, IL, died 1:20 P.M., Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation 5 to 7 P.M., Monday, January 24, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Memorials may be made To The Riggs Family.Sharon was born May 15, 1940, in Browns, IL, the daughter of James and Thelma (Bender) Weisenberger. She married James Riggs in 1962. He preceded her in death in 1998.Sharon had a 46 year nursing career, working as an RN for St. Marys Hospital and was Department Head for the Alcohol and Drug Treatment Center. She also worked as a Nursing Instructor at Richland Community College and later for the State of Illinois as Public Health Inspector, retiring in 2008. Sharon was a graduate of Sangamon State University with a Masters in Human Developmental Counseling. She attended Grace United Methodist Church and loved to travel.She is survived by her daughter Shelley (Gary) Edwards of Decatur, IL; son Joseph (Karen) Riggs of Niantic, IL; grandchildren John (Casey) Riggs of El Paso, TX, Jeffrey Riggs of Decatur, IL, Jacob Riggs of Decatur, IL, Kristy Rubi of Decatur, IL, Amie Martinez of Niantic, IL, Jason Byrne of Lincoln, IL, Melinda Cruz of Decatur, IL, Ashley Covarrubias of Decatur, IL, Zackary Byrne of Niantic, IL; 27 great grandchildren; brother Dr. John (Leticia) Weisenberger of Hanford, CA; sisters Denise (Von) Baylor of Schumway, IL, Jill (Steve) Ginder-Wilson of Olney, IL.
