Sam Decesaro

February 20, 1954 — January 23, 2025

Sam Decesaro, 70, of Decatur, IL, entered eternal rest in his home January 23, 2025, with his wife and his pastor by his side.

Sam was born in Effingham County, IL, February 20, 1954, the son of Jack and Cleda M (Stolte) Decesaro. He married Rebecca Whitlock June 19, 1993, in Decatur.

Sam attended Mt. Zion schools and was employed as a heavy equipment operator with the Macon Co. Highway Dept for 29 years. Sam was a member of Moundford Free Methodist Church of Decatur, where he faithfully served on the Board of Trustees.

His wood crafting hobbies were featured in an article of the Decatur Herald in 2014. These projects, as well as the special ink pens he made, were a labor of love which he enjoyed giving to others.

Sam is survived by his wife, Rebecca; three brothers, John (Kim) Decesaro of Bethany, IL, Jim (Eva) Decesaro of Conway, AR, Dan (JoAnn) Decesaro of Dalton City, IL; and one sister, Phyllis Decesaro of Decatur, IL. He is also survived by two nephews, four nieces, and twelve great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jack Decesaro, sister and brother-in-law Ruby and Jim Booker, and niece Dana Decesaro.

Services for Sam Decesaro will be held Saturday, February 1, 2025, 10:00 AM at Moundford Free Methodist Church, 1803 E. Mound Rd, Decatur, IL. Visitation will also be at the church on Friday, January 31, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Internment will be in Shiloh Cemetery, Coffeen, IL, on Saturday, February 1, at 3:30 PM.

Memorials may be given to Moundford Free Methodist Church or Cowden Camp Association.
