Sally Shields

Sally Shields, 59, of Decatur, died unexpectedly at 10:15 am Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. She fully embraced God's gift of life throughout her 59 years on earth.

Sally's funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Friday, January 13, also at the funeral home. Following the service, Sally will be cremated and laid to rest at a later date.

Sally was born on September 13, 1963, in Decatur, to Donald and Joyce (Piper) Shields, Jr. She was a 1981 Graduate of McArthur High School. After living in California for several years she returned to Decatur and became a House Mother for Pi Beta Phi Sorority at Millikin University. There she met, fell in love with, and later married Dale Smith on December 23, 2005, at First Methodist Church.

Sally was an animal lover throughout life. She had numerous pets, both dogs and cats. She was all about family and demonstrated her love as she provided in home care to her aging parents.

She also worked for Marriott Corporation until deciding to join her husband in his business "Sale by Dale Estate Sales", where she truly shined. Sally was creative, enjoyed painting, crafting, and had an eye for antiquing. She loved Saturday morning garage sales with Dale. Sally was one of a kind, truly the glue to her family, and will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Along with her husband, Dale, Sally is survived by her stepsons: Aaron Smith and wife, Brendan Smith, Keagen Smith, Jordan Smith; brothers: John, Scott and wife Stephanie; nephew: Blane and wife Teresa and their children, Blane’s mother, Mary; aunts: Melissa, Patricia P, and Patricia W.; cousins: Diane, Tim, Amy, Jinny, Doug, Susan, Cass, Josh, and their families; and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
