Ruth was born in Decatur, Illinois on February 14, 1923, the third oldest daughter of Lillian and Charles Gould. After graduating with honors from Stephen Decatur High School she continued her education at Brown's Business College. She worked briefly for the Rationing Board toward the end of WWII. She married Charles W. Young (Chuck) in 1944. They had three children: Stephen C. Young, Madison, Wisconsin; Linda R. Young, Los Osos, California; and Kay E. Young, Oakland, California.Ruth was a stay-at-home mom and involved her children in church activities, music, scouts, and 4-H. She was active in the PTA and enjoyed being a room mother, baking delicious cupcakes for the classroom parties. She was an accomplished seamstress and pianist. She had a beautiful voice and loved to harmonize when she sang hymns in church.When her husband died in 1990, she was not in good health and she moved to a nursing home. She was a beloved resident Her sisters, Helen Robbins and LaVerne Miller, preceded her in death. Her oldest sister, Marie Byrkit resides in Oklahoma.She is survived by her three children and also by her three grandchildren: Marie Arzel Young, Madison, Wisconsin; Gloria June Young, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Madeline Ruth Young, London, England. Earlier in her life she was very active in her church and continued to have a deep faith in God.Her children wish to thank the staff at McKinley Court and Aspen Ridge for their loving care.Ruth's final gift is to the Illinois Anatomical Gift Association. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL will be handling arrangements.A memorial service will be held at Prairie Ave. Christian Church (2201 E Prairie Ave.) on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 2:00 P.M.Donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
