Ruth Schroeder

Mrs. Schroeder was born December 13, 1914 to Sherman and Jessie Dye Madden in Decatur. She graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1932 and married E. Wayne Schroeder on May 1, 1941. During World War II she worked in the War Department at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and after the war worked briefly for the A.E. Staley manufacturing company in Decatur.Ruth and Wayne built a home on West Sunset Avenue where Ruth began her lifelong commitment to their four children. She was involved in many community activities. She was a member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Junior Welfare Association, PEO Chapter BW, Westminster Presbyterian Church Cheer Guild, Symphony Orchestra Guild of Decatur, and president of the Decatur Chapter of the American Field Service. She was also a lifelong member of the Decatur Club and the Decatur Country Club, where she enjoyed golfing and tennis. Gardening and listening to classical music were her favorite pastimes which she continued to pursue at Keystone Meadows Assisted Living. She is survived by her daughters Susan Cobb and husband John of Decatur; Marianne Wigert and husband Dennis of Evergreen, CO; Anne Schroeder and Dimitry Poretsky of Laguna Beach , CA; and son E. Wayne Schroeder, Jr. of Springfield, IL. She leaves four grandchildren, Courtney Anne McCarthy and husband Thomas of Savoy, IL; Andrew Scott Cobb and wife Elisabeth of Mt. Zion, IL; Julia Suzanne Wigert of Denver, CO; Elizabeth Anne Doyle and husband Michael of Littleton, CO; and great granddaughter Ella Margaret Cobb. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, and beloved husband, Wayne.The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the caring staff of Keystone Meadows and to Dr. Richard H.
