Ruth Jean (Simon) Pelz, 95, of Decatur, formerly of Sandusky, Ohio passed away Monday, October 15 in Lincolnshire Place, Decatur. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 20 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 250 W. Decatur St., Decatur. Catholic Mass of Burial will be held in Sandusky, Ohio on Wednesday, October 24 at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may made to Alzheimer’s Research or Holy Angels Church, 428 Tiffin Ave., Sandusky, Ohio 44870. Ruth was born April 23, 1923 in Sandusky, Ohio, the daughter of Fred and Eleanor (McLaughlin) Simon. She married Robert J. Pelz on June 14, 1941. He preceded her in death. She enjoyed traveling, reading, working puzzles, and playing cards. She was a member of Holy Family Church in Decatur. Surviving are her children: son Dale (Beth) Pelz of Suwannee, GA; daughter Nancy Salefski of Decatur, IL; son William (Sarah) Pelz of Castalia, Ohio; daughter-in-law Mary Ann Pelz of Sandusky, OH; sister Betty Goodwin of Sandusky, OH, 7 grandchildren, 1 step grandson, 11 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Robert, son Kenneth Pelz, daughter-in-law Anne Pelz, son-in-law Larry Salefski, and sister Dorothy Kraus. The family would like to thank Dr. Keith Smith and his staff and all the staff at Lincolnshire for their compassionate loving care of Ruth. "
