Ruth Massey

January 7, 1931 — May 20, 2015

"She was clothed with strength and dignity; she laughed at the days to come. She spoke with wisdom and faithful instruction was on her tongue. Her children arise and call her blessed." Proverbs 31. Our beloved Mother, Mother-in-law, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, Betty Ruth (Reider) Massey, went to Heaven on May 20th, 2015. Surrounded by her family, she was loved into the arms of Jesus. Ruth was born on January 7th, 1931, in Findlay, Illinois. She was the youngest daughter of Clyde and Ella (Mathias) Reider. Ruth worked for the Oliver Corporation-White Motor for 23 years. She managed the Sullivan Savings and Loan for 14 years. She also worked in private Health Care for 3 years. Surviving is her daughter, Peggy (Randy) Righter, daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Massey; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Brad) Schutte, Jacob Righter, Joshua (Kali) Righter, Benjamin (Emily) Massey, Sarah Massey, Robert Guthrie, Whitney (Darren) Warner; her great-grandchildren Aidan and Ella Schutte, Cole and Sloan Massey, and soon to be born, Evelyn Ruth Warner; her sisters, Virginia Miller, Jean Robinson, Alice (Kellis) Bostick; her brother, Leon (Linda) Reider; many nieces and nephews; her wonderful caregiver, Mary Beth Shipman; family friend, Joe Pryor. Special thanks to Lincolnland Hospice nurses, Amy and Denise, CNA, Sasha, Social Worker, Jessie. The compassionate care given to Mother was such a blessing. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Benjamin Massey, and her son, Greg Massey. Also preceding her was her sister, Velma Wilson, and her brothers, Harold (Heavy) Reider and Cleo (Spud) Reider. Mom had a great sense of humor. She showed us how to have a servant's heart, how to love fiercely and pray fervently. The family will honor Mom's wishes with a private family service to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, 202 W. Division St., Findlay, IL 62534 or to Sarah Bush Foundation, 1000 Health Center Dr., Mattoon, IL 61938, Attn: Lincolnland Hospice. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, will be handling the arrangements. "
