Graveside funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, Sept 1, 2010 at Cerro Gordo Cemetery in Cerro Gordo, IL.Memorials: Donors choice.Russell was born December 19, 1933 in Charleston, IL, the son of Hamilton and Laura E. (Edwards) Sims. On September 30, 1970 in Decatur, he married Elizabeth A. Martin. Russell was a veteran of the US Army. He was employed as a machinist for Caterpillar retiring in 1994 after 31 years of service. He loved to farm and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Russell was also loved Blue Grass Festivals and music.Russell is survived by his four children, Randall A. Sims and wife Marsha of Bethany, IL, Lisa Machelle Rankin and husband Jimmy of Charleston, IL, Thomas A. Longfellow of Washington DC, Gregory A. Longfellow of Washington, IL; one step-daughter Sherlene Martin of Carlsbad, NM; one step-son Kerry Martin of Neoga, IL; one sister Kathryn Ryder of Charleston, IL; one brother John H. Sims and wife Annelise of Decatur; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.Russell was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. "
