Rupert George Macpherson, 99 years young, of Decatur, IL, passed away Thursday morning, April 3, 2014, at his residence. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Friday, April 11, 2014, at Grace United Methodist Church, Decatur, IL. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, followed by Masonic services beginning at 7 p.m. Burial will be at noon on April 11 in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Riverton, IL, with military rites conducted by Macon County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to DMH Hospice or Shriner's Hospital for Children. Rupert was born May 16, 1914 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of George and Margaret (Jones) Macpherson. He married Florence Evelyn Horner on September 15, 1939 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in New York, NY. Rupert was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army, serving in Operations and Training Staff Officer 2162. He served in the European Theater, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe with the 802nd Anti-tank Battalion of the 83rd Infantry Division. Decorations and Citations include the Silver Star Medal and Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. Rupert was a 55 year member of Masonic Lodge #449 AF & AM in Plain City, KY and Past-President of Decatur Shriners. He was also integral in establishing the SCORE Chapter at Millikin University. He is survived by his daughter Bonnie Claire Garrett and husband John of New Baden, IL; grandchildren Ellen Squyars and husband Anthony of Chesterfield, VA, William C. Macpherson and wife Shawn of Wilmington, NC, John Rupert Garrett and wife Jenni of New York, NY, Stuart W. Macpherson of Waldorf, MD, David Edwin Garrett and wife Dawn of Merced, CA; great grandchildren Savannah, Megan and Grant Squyars, Riley and Tanner Macpherson, Jayden and Drew Garrett. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Florence of 67 years, infant son Rupert, and son William Rupert Macpherson. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Totel and Linda, Dr. Esparaz, Dr. Baker, Dr. Sinha, Pat, Jeanie, John, Steve, Debbie, Wanda, Jessica, Kelley, Katie, Cassandra and Louise, for all their care given to Rupert.
