Ruby Baker Tarter Lynch, 96, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015, at Fair Havens Christian Home in Decatur, IL. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at Tabernacle Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m., with visitation starting at 9:00 a.m. prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, will be assisting the family with arrangements. Ruby was born in Nancy, Kentucky on February 12, 1918, the oldest of seven children of Dan J. and Odie Jane Baker. She married Linnie Tarter in 1935. They had three children: Noble Dean, Nancy Lee, and Doris Ann. Linnie died in a farm accident in 1947, leaving Ruby widowed and with three small children to raise alone to adulthood. In 1958, Ruby married Wayne Lynch. He passed away in 1999. Ruby was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for over fifty years. She was an accomplished seamstress sewing and altering clothes for family members, neighbors and friends. Ruby loved to cook, garden, raise vegetables of all kinds, especially tomatoes, and tended many varieties of flowers. She enjoyed sharing her garden with neighbors, family and friends. Later, she became a University of Illinois basketball and St. Louis Cardinals fan. She is survived by her children Nancy (David) Cooprider, and Doris (Harold) Murphy; grandchildren Cheri Lynn Ellison of Tallahassee, Florida, Tonya (Rodney) Kiser of Indian Trail, North Carolina, and Dr. Christopher (Tressa) Murphy of Swansea, Illinois; daughter-in-law Judy Tarter of Indian Trail, North Carolina; step great grandchildren Taylor and Madison Kiser, and Nehemiah Morgan; sisters Marie Dalton of Remington, Indiana and Ruie Tarter of Monticello, Illinois. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, husbands Linnie and Wayne, son Noble, three brothers and one sister. Throughout her whole life, Ruby was a faithful servant and follower of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a generous woman with a warm and friendly smile who was truly devoted to her family and friends. She loved deeply and she was deeply loved. Now she is at peace in the arms of the One who loves her more. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Fair Havens Christian Home for all the compassion and care they provided. Fair Havens and its staff are a great asset to our community. "
