Roy Welch

Roy L. "Okie" Welch, 73, of Decatur, IL, died 6:54 P.M., Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at Heritage Manor, Mt. Zion, IL. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., Monday, March 26, 2012, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation 6 to 8 P.M., Sunday, March 25, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, IL. Memorials may be made to Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois, 210 W. McKinley, Decatur, IL 62526. Roy was born June 26, 1938 in Gypsy, Oklahoma, the son of Ruben H. and Hattie B. (Bullard) Welch. He married Emma Jean Covey on June 7, 1958 in Decatur, IL. Roy worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 30 years, retiring in 1995. He loved fishing and hunting, collecting marbles, hot wheel cars and loved telling jokes. Roy was a U.S. Air Force veteran, during the Korean war and Vietnam. He was a member of D.A.V. and Metal Detector Club. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Emma of Decatur, IL; son David Glenn Welch of Decatur, IL; grandchildren John Welch, Justin Welch, both of Decatur, IL, Tonya Welch of Pana, IL, Kasara Welch of Decatur, IL; great granddaughter Peyton Koontz of Pana, IL; sister Joan Long of Texas; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Patrick Welch, brother Ernest Welch, father-in-law Doris Covey, nephews Joe Bobby Welch and Wade Welch. The family would like to give special thanks to Cancer Care Center, DMH, Heritage Health, Dr. Velasco and Dr. Yoon for their care and compassion given to Roy. "
