Roy Smith

Roy Eugene Smith, 71, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 1:50 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016 in his home.Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard.Roy was born February 25, 1945, in Decatur, IL, the son of Roy Edward and Gertrude Elizabeth (Lukens) Smith. He married Gloria Sharlene “Sheri” Blakeman on December 10, 1965.Roy was a U.S. Navy veteran. He worked at ADM for over 30 years, retiring in 2010. He enjoyed woodworking, Nascar, muscle cars, country music, wrestling and camping. Roy was a loving husband and father and always put his family first. His faith in God stayed strong throughout his illness and was an encouragement to everyone around him. Surviving are his wife Sheri of Decatur; son: Troy Eugene Smith and wife Rebecca of Chatham, IL; daughters: Tara Helm and husband John of Carolina Beach, NC, and Tiffany Tangney and husband Matthew of Decatur, IL; grandchildren: Taylor, Hailey, Tristan, Tanner, Shayla, Tate, Karter, and Cooper; sisters: Mary Force and husband Irvin of Tower Hill, IL, and Kathy Huff of Jerseyville, IL.Roy was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.The family wishes to thank Becky from DMH Hospice and Allison from the Cancer Care Center for their care and compassion given to Roy during his journey.Memorials may be made to DMH Hospice.
