Roy Enloe

July 13, 1920 — November 9, 2009

Roy was born July 13, 1920 in Pearl City, IL, the son of Roy E. Enloe and Frances McGinn. Roy was preceded in death by his sister Lara and is survived by his wife Lucile Enloe and brother Robert Enloe of Decatur IL.Roy attended Drake University in Des Moines, IA and became a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon in 1941. Shortly after seeing Lucile Caligiuri in an arithmetic class, he walked right up to her and told her she was the woman he was going to marry. They wed February 28, 1943, at the height of WWII and Roy joined the Army Air Corps to be a navigator on a B-29 bomber. Over their almost 67 years of marriage, they lovingly created and raised a family of 11 children, 25 grandchildren and 13 great grand children. Surviving children include Roy Enloe III (Kay), Suzie Nugent (Denny), Sam Enloe (Kathy), Vicki Smith, Mike Enloe (Cindy), Gina Enloe, Pete Enloe, Philip Enloe (Kandi), Terry Enloe (Debbie), Lisa Enloe (Steve) and Janet Valla (Stew). After WWII Roy returned to Drake to graduate from the College of Pharmacy in 1947. With degree in tow, he came back to Decatur to work at the family pharmacy, Enloe Drugs the oldest established drug store in Illinois. Along with his father and brother, and then several of his children, Roy continued to own and operate Enloes well into his 80s. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Chamber of Commerce and the Illinois Pharmaceutical Association. A lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, he also was a regular at Schaefers bowling alley and was inducted into the Decatur Bowling Associations Hall of Fame on October 7, 2001.Roy had an unmistakably rowdy spirit and he charmed everyone he met. He had a fierce love for his family and friends, especially his wife Lucile. He had a generous heart and a gentle soul, proving that he was a noble patriarch and a wonderful man. The community has lost a distinguished and knowledgeable man, and one heck of a bowler. He touched many lives and loved and laughed alongside them. His family would like to thank all the wonderfully hard working people at ICLC for all of the care and love they gave him. Roy will truly be missed by all of those that were lucky enough to know and love him. His life was full and those that survive him will think of him fondly the next time it thunders, knowing that old bowlers never diethey just dont score as often. "
