Shobe-Schmitt Born December 8, 1914, Rosine Elizabeth Welch Shobe-Schmitt completed her earthly journey on June 15, 2011 at 2:35 p.m. in Decatur, Illinois. She was born the daughter of John and Bessie (Cox) Welch, the second of two daughters. Sister, Iona Fundy and an infant brother preceded her in death.Rosine married E. Earl Shobe in 1933. Earl passed away in 1971. They became the parents of four children. Joanna (Jim) Hurlburt, deceased; John Lloyd Shobe (deceased); Sally (Dan) Crabill Forsyth; and Richard Earl Shobe (Janet Fulk), Champaign. Both Sally and Richard survive their mother. Rosine later married Robert Schmitt and he preceded her in death.Rosine was a devote Christian and enjoyed playing the piano and organ for services. She was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church. At the time of death, she was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Decatur. She frequently held offices in the United Methodist Women, locally and district. She was often a Sunday School teacher and youth leader. She volunteered for many years and would go to nursing homes and do Sunday services and daily devotions. As a current resident of Lincoln Rehabilitation Center, Rosine could often be seen conducting the daily devotions for the other residents. She played the piano almost on a daily basis to draw the other residents into the services. After the amputation of her right thumb, she continued to play as soon as healing was completed. Her playing ceased as her health failed but she never stopped talking of wanting to be able to start playing again.Survivors, besides Sally and Richard, are seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews, and two stepdaughters and their families.Arrangements are for Monday, June 20, 2011 with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, with services following immediately after. Burial will be beside her husband, Earl, in Fairlawn Cemetery, Decatur. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church in Decatur, March of Dimes, or Leukemia Foundation.Heaven will surely have more music now that she has arrived. We love you, Momma! "
